SOLD - Grand Seiko 6146-8030

Steel case
2

Ok so here’s another watch offered for sale with just the briefest of descriptions, because the video should provide you with all the insight you need. I wrote about the 6146-8030 in one of the catalogue newsletters that you can read here -

Last week’s listing was snapped up in less than an hour, so let’s see if this one lasts a little longer!

I’m going to try to get into the habit of listing a watch each Monday. I appreciate that it can be frustrating for some collectors (mostly driven by the time zone you are in) who miss out when a watch sells very quickly, but I will always share a video on Instagram a couple of days prior to sending out the “for sale” newsletter, so do keep watch over there - you might want to set up an alert for new content on the account, since the algorithm is particularly useless these days.

(Occasionally I will share videos to the Instagram account of watches that I have no intention of selling - such as the recent post of the 6145-8030 - and in those instances, I will make it clear in the comment on the post that the watch is not for sale.)

Case

Absolutely outstanding condition, with just the most minor little scuffs that are clearly visible in the video (rather less so to the naked eye of course!).

Dial

Immaculate. I can’t find a single issue.

Movement

As always, the watch will be sent off to my watchmaker for a full movement service immediately prior to shipment.

Price

US$13,500 including worldwide courier delivery. If you reside in SE Asia, then delivery by hand may be possible.

Just three examples of this reference have sold on Yahoo in the last decade. Who knows when the next one will turn up, and the likelihood of finding another one of this quality is extremely slim. By contrast, there have been ten examples of the 6146-8040 sold over the same period, with the most recent one closing at over 900,000 Yen.

Historically, the few examples of the 6146-8030 that have changed hands have always done so for at least double the price of the -8040. I don’t have any insight into the “true” relative rarity of the two references, but it is a simple fact that a -8030 very rarely leaves a collection once it settles in.

The usual 10% off to paid subscribers for the first week (so that bring it to $12,150), and should it still remain unsold after that time, then the newsletter will be forwarded on to free subscribers.

Any questions, don’t hesitate to comment below, or drop me an email.
