We don’t just list the watches that we have for sale in the anticipation that customers will add them to their collections – we also list watches that we have never had in stock, along with as much data about those watches as we can glean. The intent is to be a reliable source of information about exactly which references were created by Grand Seiko, and to provide data on those references.
We are confident that currently this site contains the most complete, accurate and detailed information on the historical Grand Seiko references that you will find anywhere.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Following on from the sighting of a 57GS in a photo of a shop display in the November 1966 issue of Seiko Sales, we again see a 57GS featured in the subsequent issue.
Whilst it was not possible to determine with certainty exactly which reference was pictured on the previous issue's front cover, in December 1966 it there is no doubt that the watch pictured on page 8 is the 43999 with AD dial.
One interesting thing to note from this page is that it lists both the steel and gold cap variants of the 57GS, whilst picturing the 43999 AD dial. We do not believe there were ever any gold cap cased 57GS manufactured with 43999 dials (although we do have in our collection a prototype example of this dial). In fact, there are no 57GS in gold cap seen with "Chronometer" dials - they all have the later dials similar to those seen on the 5722-9991. Thus, it would not have been possible for a customer at the time to purchase a gold cap cased 57GS as it is presented here.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
