Oh nice! Thank you for the recommendation. Have been waiting for a nice 4520-8000 for a long time. Definitely going for this one. Perfectly rounding up my 1965-1969 collection, as it is from December of 1969 :). Wish me luck!!!

Thanks for that info on the 4580-7010. It's the first one seeing one (allegedly) pop up for auction. Would have been nice to witness a legitimate model actually pop up.

And I agree, the finishing on the balance cocktail and barrel bridge are wrong looking at your old photos. I can only begin to imagine how much of a pain those would be to find.

Awesome thank you! Very helpful and I have seen that on older 56 that I picked up a couple decades ago!

New to the stack. You mention “Usual caveat emptors apply with any 56GS” - anywhere you could direct me to to read these? Thanks for the awesome resources!

Hi Nick - welcome aboard! The 56GS movements have a design flaw in that there is a plastic part to the day/date change mechanism. Over time this cracks and fails. Unless a listing specifically states that the day/date change mechanism is working properly, it’s best to assume that it will be broken. There are modern 3rd party replacement metal parts that are readily available.

A good feeling is when Gerald calls a listing simply “trashy fake” without tipping off the perp, and your expensive 57SD passes yet another comparison test.
