Great write up Gerald. As for the number of the SBGW252, 353, it was because the first GS was released on the 353rd day of the year 1960.

I visited the Wako store two weeks ago and really fell for the SBGW259. Incredible blue purple dial depending on the lighting! The price has increased though, now JPY1 089 000

Wonderful write up, thank you. That urushi maki-e 295 stays on my grail list perpetually. I’m one who is thankful for the pedestrian movement, that brings it into theoretical possibility of ownership. That said, secondary prices are crazy for it, so maybe it’s still never happening. 🫤

Also what’s your thoughts on GS recreations costing more than the originals? Modern Daytonas and Royal Oaks are cheaper than 5402s and Paul Newmans, why do you think it’s opposite for GS and is it “correct”?

Gerald, what’s ur pick of the “regular” recreations? Ie not takashimaya or sbgz
