There was a 6185-7000 18k VFA that was listed on Wednesday for a crazy low price by Yonedaya. I very nearly hit the buy button, but in the end the condition of the case (looked to be a completely reconditioned without respect for the original contrasting brushed and flat polished surfaces) prevented me from going through with it. It was still available when I went to sleep last night, but when I woke up this morning and sat down to write the newsletter, it had sold. Unsurprising really at the price. Hopefully the new owner can get the case sorted.
I don’t think anyone knows the full background to these. I hear on the grapevine that there are at least two surviving. Supposedly factory produced for the Neilsen TV ratings company. For what purpose, no idea!
I like my misspelled Harry Nilsson explanation better. I mean don’t try to fake the funk if you don’t have the platinum yet. At least spring for some SS furniture.
