Good lord. The first GS manual closed for ¥61,500. Almost as much as the inner and outer boxes combined. Clearly the missing inner tray and the condition of the outer box kept the prices down on those two.

Almost no dome on the later crown design. Got it !

Very nice GS first selection! I will be bidding on your highest ranked one 🤗

That went a bit over my max bid :( 319k

Also love the contrast between the all gold 5646 case and silver movement. Makes me wish one could match a gold display caseback and pair them together. 🥰

Awesome newsletter and selection!

- “Firsts are becoming increasingly rare in the market”

- Also this week: 7 Firsts listed 🤣

Maybe I’ll get one after all Scott!

The Grand Seiko Guy's avatar

Yeah the problem is the quality of the ones that do turn up.

Although having said that, a pretty decent print logo dial was listed yesterday by a dealer :)

Just read the whole newsletter properly - wish every week was like this! Just went and bought a First... sighs

Congratulations! I am still bidding on the one with the golf aftermarket bracelet. 2 hours to go 😬

Alexej's avatar

Ahhh smart ;) I am still looking for mine!

Alexej's avatar

I wish ... went up to high. I think twice the price of yours!

jcl's avatar

Mine wasn’t in auction hehe 😉

If that 5646-7040 stays low enough I may pick it up for the spare dial. I remember seeing another 7040 listed earlier this year with a bad dial that under-sold.

We shall see where the price sits in it's last few hours 🤔

The Grand Seiko Guy's avatar

Yeah not a bad idea. Hoping it stays low for you!

Christian Schlekewy's avatar

Thanks, fingers crossed 😉🤞

Probably missing something here, but what's the issue with the creamy dialed 5646-7010?

The Grand Seiko Guy's avatar

It is also missing something!

Just noticed lol

What do people think of pricing on first recreations? I think all of modern GS is overpriced now but no better direct comparison than for the first. Why would anyone pay several multiples for a steel or titanium recreation over a raised logo vintage first? Why is it not like AP or Patek where the original Royal Oak or Nautilus trades over the modern.

I think it's just a matter of time. Vintage GS is still niche. I have yet to spot a vintage GS in the wild here in HK whereas by contrast I've seen 15-20 modern GS in the wild in the past 24 months!

I think vintage GS is still very much a niche sport, not helped by 90%+ remaining in Japan. Chances are most watch enthusiasts have never seen or held one.

I remember walking into a GS salon here in London wearing a 45, and the attendant gasped. “Where did you get that from?” she asked - and that’s someone who works for GS.

Quick question. Anyone know if the 5646-7005 bracelet self resizable or is it only jeweler sizable?

The Grand Seiko Guy's avatar

Definitely not self-resizable!

Regarding the GS 6246 there is some ”bleeding” on the letters on the dial, if you look at the automatic, Grand Seiko and diashock spelling? Is this normal or a fake dial?

The Grand Seiko Guy's avatar

Yeah this is fairly common. Definitely a legitimate dial.

Alexej's avatar

I have the same on my 62GS and was initially concerned.
