The LE snowflake pricing you mentioned is interesting. Last year I similarly picked up an SBGA475, a 50 piece limited edition steel snowflake in 39mm made for a shop in Osaka. When I saw the specs I expected to pay 10k at least given the pricing for the regular snowflake is 8k odd now, but it was released at just 5k odd jpy even with mark up from the reseller I got it at a lower price (brand new) than a beaten up snowflake. Seems like these LEs were done as favours to mark the commemoration with no profit intended for GS. Ironically that’s my first and only modern GS as it sent me down this vintage GS rabbit hole!
Same thing happened to me when I bought SBGA129 back in 2015. Walked into a dealer in HK who had the regular Snow White (SBGA011) and I was disappointed when I put it on my wrist because of the lack of heft. He told me he'd just got in a steel cased variant that was made in an edition of just 369. Tried it on, loved it, and then said "Ok give me the bad news - how much more for this one?" I was amazed to discover it was actually cheaper (OK, steel vs titanium, but I had no idea of the relative pricing back then).
Couldn't bring myself to go up to the hammer price of 472k yen - the dial needed some clear work, and I don't have a connect for servicing vintage GS. Oh well!
On the pool: maybe move parts of the disclaimers to the bottom of each post. I still think they are needed for newbies or when this post will be old and looked at without context from the rest
Well it would be a very strange thing for someone to do - to have “Toshiba Thailand 1969” stamped into the caseback of a watch that didn’t have something to do with Toshiba in Thailand in 1969! Where and by whom it was stamped is of course a completely open question, but it’s interesting that it has surfaced in Japan, and that the commemoration is in English, and not Thai or Japanese. I very much doubt we will ever find out more about it.
Well there’s a surprise. I finally won an auction for a watch recommended in the Friday newsletter 🤣

SBGA475 is a fabulous piece - congratulations!
I’m the target demographic for that VFA. Maybe my first?
Best of luck Alejandro - there's nothing wrong with a bit of "wabi-sabi"!

A shame about that bracelet. I had just picked up a 7030 to fix recently too!
Good week. The box, Liner info and hinky 44 were the highlights imo

Slow week 😰
Well it picked up a bit after a very slow start in the first few dozen auctions!
What makes you think the Toyota Thailand is in any way legitimate?

Toshiba/Toyota. Doh!
