The crystal on the 6186 8000 short hands should be blacking out on side view ?

Yup - a sure sign that it’s not the original crystal. It’s not even the correct profile. Perhaps I should send Grand Seiko a few of my sapphire crystals that have the exact same profile as the original Hardlex ones 😜

As we learn here, that version is not rare relative to the other VFA’s. But it must have the correct crystal when you go to sell. A 5k mistake I made a few months ago

I asked this before to no avail, but is the Toshiba AD dial correct and original? Got the impression they should only be 5722 dials. Still waiting for that 57gs primer!

Apologies if I missed it! Yes - 43999 AD dial can be correct for a 1965 Toshiba. 57GS primer is still a way off, sorry!

How about for May 1965? That’s the example on offer elsewhere. Thought May was a bit late for AD dials. If it’s legit I’d go and buy it now haha. Thanks!

May 1965 is absolutely fine for a 43999 AD dial (I’ve seen multiple examples as late as August 1965). For the non-Toshibas expect a 5722-9990 caseback and a 5722A movement.

Right so they actually made AD dials much later for Toshiba than for regular production? The regular production flipped to the 5722-9990 dial around when? I have a feeling the 57gs primer is gonna be a blast!

No sorry - apologies if I wasn't clear. So far I've got details of 54 of the 57GS from May-August 1965. Of those, four have the 43999 AD dial. Of those four, two are Toshibas from May 1965, one with a 43999 AD dial, and the other with the 5722-9990. It's entirely possible that the one you're looking at is the one I have a note of! Does it have a service mark on the inside caseback "59.2.20 OHN"?

Sorry one more if I could nitpick, what do you mean of 4 with an AD dial, of which one had a 5722-9990 dial haha 😂

Oops! Conflated thoughts there :) 2 Toshibas from May - one with a 5772, and the other a 43999 dial.
